Located in the province of Pontevedra, Vigo is Galicia’s largest and most populated conurbation and part of the Rias Baixas area. Its massive port and economic status has provided transport links to and from Vigo, throughout the rest of Galicia and many of the major cities of Spain. Vigo’s port is one of the best in Galicia and is used as a departure point for Atlantic cruise liners and includes a magnificent marina, exclusive yacht club and some of the best shellfish around. Santiago de Compostela and Pontevedra are close by and worth a trip, especially for the city’s medieval old quarter with its beautiful plazas, civic architecture, squares and parks.
