The beautiful island of Venice-Lido is the narrow strip of land that separates the central part of the Venetian lagoon from the Adriatic Sea. Often just called the “Lido,” this Venice seaside resort is popular for beach holidays. The Venice Film Festival brings movie world glamour to the Lido and the grandest of hotels attract celebrities and tourists alike. It is here that Thomas Mann’s “Death in Venice” is celebrated. The lido provides the only golf course in Venice and it is also the only island in the area that allows cars and mopeds. Visitors enjoy the scenic trails for biking and hiking as well as the many water sports, restaurants and cafes.
Holidays in Italy could be extremely expensive but tourists on a budget can still have a great time if they look around for the cheaper accommodation and eating places.
